The Canada Lynx

Picture USFWS
The Canada Lynx is a rare northern wild cat.
It lives in the forests where its main food is the Snowshoe
Hare. Males average around 22 pounds in weight and females
are a little smaller at around 19 pounds.
The population of the Canada Lynx is regulated
by variations in abundance of the Snowshoe Hare. The numbers
of hares folow a cycle and at the times when they are scarce
the Lynxes breeding success can fall to zero.
