Spotlight on the Ocelot
The ocelot is a wild cat that is found from
Southern Texas southwards to Northern Argentina Its coat
has a distinctive appearace with dark brown irregular shaped
spots and stripes, edged with black on a yellowis background
Life Cycle. The young are born in after
a Fall about 10 or 11 weeks after mating. The mother having
constructed a den in a thicket or hollow tree.
Ocelots feed on a range of small mammals and
birds, and also some other small creatures suche as reptiles,
amphibians, and fish
Threats. The Ocelot's beautiful coat
has led to its persecution. The valuable pelt being made
into fur clothing. This trade and the destruction of the
forests where it lives have led to a decline in numbers.
