The Different Races of Tiger

The Bengal Tiger This is the well known Tiger of India although it ranges as far as Nepal and Burma. The males grow to around nine and a half feet in length and weigh around 480 pounds. The females grow to around eight feet in length and weigh around 300 pounds.

The Siberian Tiger This is the largest Tiger and is found in eastern Russia, north east China and the northernmost parts of North Korea. The males can reach over ten and a half foot long and a weight of 660 pounds. The females reach eight and a half feet and a weight of 370 pounds. It is paler in color than other Tiger races with brown widely placed stripes that are in the place of the usual black.

The South China Tiger This is the most critically endangered Tiger. As few as 20 still survive in the wild in a small area of southern China. The males reach eight feet in length weigh around 330 pounds. The Females tigers measuring about seven and a half feet long. They weigh 240 pounds.

The Indochinese Tiger This occurs in Burma, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and the Malaysian peninsula. The males grow to a length of nine feet and weigh around 400 pounds. The Females measuring around eight feet in length and weighing around 250 pounds.

The Sumatran Tiger. This is the smallest surviving race of Tiger and occurs only on the island of Sumatra. The male grow to about eight feet in length and weigh about 260 pounds. Females measure around seven feet in length and weigh about 200 pounds.

Extinct races The Bali Tiger was even smaller than the Sumatran and the last known one was killed in 1937. The Caspian Tiger was found in Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Mongolia, and parts of Russia and became extinct in around 1950.
