Three planning applications are currently
under consideration for expansion of operations at Swansea airfield.
This is part of government proposals to double UK flights to twice today's
volume by 2020. An expansion of this magnitude in Wales would be in
direct contradiction to commitments on sustainability from the Welsh
Assembly Government .
As the impact of human-caused global
climate change is becoming difficult to ignore, it is not enough to
accept the claimed business benefits of airport expansion whether in
Swansea, Newport or anywhere in Wales. These benefits must be balanced
by the environmental damage caused by such a development.
Pollution from UK flights currently
costs £2 billion a year to people's health and in damage to natural
resources. This campaign is about balance and our legacy to the next
generations.
Further public meetings will be announced
soon.
Objections to the planning applications
